This course is not a formal presentation of Project Management techniques for the
Oil and Gas Industry; instead it is a guide as to important Issues that Management
must consider as part of the Oil and Gas activities. It is taken from the experience of
the presenter working both in a very large Oil company and in a small project
oriented Field development consultancy group.
Interactions with Government Organisations: The Oil and Gas industries, by their nature are international and have to interact with government organisations around the world. Some of these interactions are discussed, including, Licensing, Field Development approvals, Local content, Regulations and Standards, Safety Issues etc..
Project Management Issues: Such standard issues as Project and Team Organisation, Planning Methods and Procedures and Team Interfaces are reviewed and illustrated
Management of Emergency and Crisis: Emergency Response Planning in advance of situations are discussed.
Management of Environmental Issues: Probably, one of the greatest external pressures on Field Development Project Teams comes from the increased Environmental Issues raised by the public.
Overview of the Management and Inputs to the Field Development Process: The overall steps in a Field development process are reviewed from the Exploration Drilling to the First Oil and hand over to the Operations team. Examples of detailed Operations Manuals and Operator training programmes are discussed.
Economic Concepts: Standard Economic concepts (Payback, NPV, ROR Time value of money) are discussed against the special nature of large cost offshore projects.
Cost Reduction Approaches: Countries around the world have evolved approaches to Cost Reduction Measures. These are review and discussed with their lessons
learned.
Management of Procurement Activities:Many new Field Developments are massive in scope and cost. The management of the procurement activity is examined.
