Certificate in Well Control and Blowout Prevention(BOP)
This BOP / well control course is fully accredited by the IADC Well Control Accreditation Program - WellCAP, the IWCF and the combined IADC/IWCF International Alliance for Well Control (IAWC).

Duration of each well control course is five days. It is offered in API Imperial and Metric Units.

The NDWCP well control curriculum addresses three levels of well control responsibility appropriate to a Surface Stack or Combined Surface or Subsea operation:

  • Supervisory level (advanced driller, toolpusher, superintendent & engineer)
  • Fundamental/Driller level (trainee driller & driller)
  • Introductory level (derrickhand & oilfield support personnel)

The core curriculum and related set of job skills at our well control courses emphasise:

  • Causes of kicks 
  • Kick prevention 
  • Pressure concepts and calculations 
  • Procedures for flow checks, shut-in and other activities
  • Gas characteristics and behaviour 
  • Fluid types and properties 
  • Constant bottomhole pressure methods 
  • Instrumentation and equipment 
  • Subsea well control and equipment
  • Operations instruction in special situations such as H2S or shallow gas.

The NDWCP operates under IADC & IWCF guidelines on instructional content, length of study for various topics, test construction, class size and simulator/test well exercises.
