All courses are Internet based and delivered in a distance education format. Students interact with instructors and fellow students via the Internet using a flexible teaching and learning tool called WebCT. Students are provided with Course Guides, CDs and software necessary to complete the course.
Studying online means that one can study from anywhere in the world if he/she has access to the Internet. The Course Material and homework exercises are in electronic format using scientific spreadsheets making most effective use of limited student preparation time.
Assessment is split approximately 60:40 between assignments and a formal end of course examination. The University makes the necessary arrangements for the formal examination to be carried out at a time and location to suit the individual candidate but during the set examination period by the University.
Examinations are arranged during each semester in the students' workplace or other mutually acceptable venue to assess the students' understanding of basic principles. Assignments are set with a focus on the application of theory to practical situations.
The Study Guides and accompanying CDs and software are designed to be self-contained to ensure that distance study is both effective and stimulating. Students are encouraged to go beyond the Study Guide material and make use of university and employer libraries and other publicly available information (for example, textbooks, discussion papers, published papers). Students are required to participate in bulletin board discussions.
The course fee covers provision of the course study package, academic assistance with assignments and tutorial problems (by fax, e-mail, mail and phone), administration and exam requirements.
At UNSW, there are two academic sessions per year. Each session is approximately 12 weeks long. Students must complete the course(s) within the session in which they are enrolled in.
In Australia, the course cost qualifies as a tax-deductible expense. This also applies to employers of students, should they wish to offer financial assistance to selected employees to undertake the programs or selected courses.
Local and International students require to pay an Application fee of AUD $100.
Course fees are subject to revision annually.
All course charges are generally non-refundable.
