Petroleum Engineering

Petroleum Engineering is a specialised engineering discipline. It is concerned with recovering oil and gas from the earth to satisfy the world's energy needs.

This involves activities such as:
  • Exploration
  • Drilling
  • Production
  • Processing
  • Transport
Petroleum engineering also involves economic evaluation, oil and gas law, finance and accounting, environmental assessments and safety issues. Studying petroleum engineering prepares people for careers in the oil and gas and related industries.

The School of Petroleum Engineering (SCOPE) works closely with the petroleum industry to ensure that our activities conform to its needs. Students benefit from scholarships, work experience and assistance with employment.
